The Ten Worst VNs of 2017

The court is now in session.

As I said covering the Ten Best Visual Novels of the year, 2017 was a fantastic year for the medium. However, that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few that weren’t quite up to snuff…in fact more than a few. Yes, as per reviewer traditions that goes back for generations; when talk about the good, we must also talk about the bad. 2017 provided a challenge in that area, because I haven’t played many games that were obviously bad. I have avoided Winged Cloud like the plague, Dharker/BurstRay Games is still on the calendar but I’m not rushing into the fray, and most of the controversial stuff is so obviously broken I haven’t seen the need to get involved.

Also, no furries this year.

With all of that in mind, this list has become less emotional outrage and more logical follow-through. I know many will disagree with some items on this list, but I’m coming in hoping that because I have no choice but to explain everything, we can at least have fruitful conversation on why these ten titles stuck out the most for me as bad in a good year. SO, with that said; roll out the fucking tarp folks. Let’s talk about the TEN WORST VNS OF 2017!

I love Arcana with all my heart, but fuck Nix Hydra and their ridiculous pricing. Even the choices you made by buying coins don’t stay unlocked, and if you want to see the same story again you’ll have to buy it again, or buy the whole book, which is so damn expensive for a 20 minutes entertainment. I’d rather invest in Voltage’s Lovestruck app
