The Ten Worst Visual Novels of 2018

And so we’ve come to it, as we inevitably do. Welcome all to the 2018 End of Year Lists. First I want to thank you for your patience. 2018, overall, was a good year for visual novels in the West: even with the controversy around Steam. But that isn’t to say we didn’t have some crap to deal with in the mix. I will not pretend that I’ve played every title that came out in 2018: which is a good problem to have here. But of the ones I did play, there was plenty of crap to deal with. And it’s time for those titles to account for themselves.

Now, only one title on this list will be what I consider to be an easy target. Yes, I’m aware of all of the bad translation (SakuraGame), outright broken messes and whatever the Hell AJ Tilley and Winged Cloud are putting out now. However, a bad visual novel separates from the rest of the gaming world in my mind because that usually denotes a bad story first and foremost. It won’t be easy, but it should be fun. Lock and load all: let’s dig in.
