Fjord Noir Mystery Draugen Coming To PC May 29th

One of the more interesting turns in modern horror fiction is the current retro trend. Many horror authors and filmmakers are going back to the 1960s and 70s of horror for inspiration and it has led to some interesting experiments such as the revival of The Twilight Zone, films like Midsommar and the Suspiria remake. This is starting to come to gaming as well with titles like The Shrouded Isle and Devotion. The latest in this ‘retro horror’ turn is coming from Norwegian developer Red Thread Games. The group is responsible for the episodic Dreamfall Chapters series. This title, Draugen, will be their first original IP. You can watch the release trailer above and read the synopsis below:

The year is 1923. You play Edward Charles Harden, an American traveller who’s come to Norway to find his missing sister. But you’re not alone: at every step of the way, Edward’s accompanied by his ward, Lissie; a gregarious, independent and enigmatic young woman. Together, you must explore this scenic coastal community — nestled amongst the fjords and mountains of rural Norway — in your search for Edward’s sister, and unearth the darkness that lies beneath the picturesque surface.

I reacted to the trailer in my Twitch livestream this past Thursday. The trailer reminds me a lot of Bioshock Infinite without the underlying political philosophy or combat. But, it still looks like a very intriguing setup for a mystery. If this has interested you, you can get more information on the game here. JP3: OUT.
