3. Suzerain (Torpor Games)
It takes a special kind of game to be released and immediately be hailed as one of the Greatest of All Time, but the universal adulation for Torpor Games’ Suzerain is well earned. Taking the seat of the fictional Eastern European nation Sordland’s Presidency, the audience has to navigate several complex domestic and international situations with very little room for error. It does so with amazing skill: making every strategic meeting, every negotiation and every bill sign a heavy choice for the audience. I have watched streamers spend hours on singular choices to try and make their long-term goals succeed. But I’ve also seen the deeper character moments in between that tie it all together. The way you can interact with Anton’s wife and children, how certain advisors can become part of that family as you work to achieve great goals and the overwhelming satisfaction that comes when you do it: when you actually succeed.
