Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (29-11)
21. Sanguine Rose (Dusky Hollows)
It’s Sanguine Rose‘s fault I’ve started covering more adult VNs. That’s right, I am not to blame the half-orcish girl is!
Sanguine Rose works because it handles its obvious tense premise better than most: several people with questionable morals and curiosities about the others they are with, only one of them should not be trusted under any circumstances. Early on I described the main antagonist, Carmine Valentine, as similar to the Xenomorph from the Alien series and she lives up to the terrifying hype in a very unexpected way. Her ability to seduce nearly everyone, especially the Protagonist and his immediate underling (seen above), makes her an immediate threat and indulging in the game’s eroticism just places you deeper into her thrall. Even if you, like me, are often put off by the adult fair in VNs for understandable reasons, you owe it to yourself to give this one a try.
