Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (29-11)

27. The Confines of the Crown (Hanako Games)

Before the fictional portrayal of several English monarchs and the sinister intrigue of Game of Thrones (Seasons 1-4), one of the highest regard political stories I enjoyed in was The Confines of the Crown: known by a different title that I will leave in the snare of history. Beyond the basic Otome premise is the larger story of intrigue, deception and political machinations that our protagonist Madeline has to try and keep from tripping her up. It makes the endings much more rewarding. Even the various romances click well and fit the context of the world at large: making for some interesting, but well developed pairings in the end. Overall, while it probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it will surprise you more than once and you may find yourself pleasantly trapped in one of the better Otome titles EVNs have to offer. And no; none of the puns in this one have been by mistake.
