Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (29-11)
20. Dear Devere (Katy_133)
If an EVN is ever adapted onto screen by the BBC, this would be my first suggestion…although the developer is not British. CBC then? I don’t know. The point is that Dear Devere is bloody good. Set in the backdrop between the First and Second World Wars, the entire game’s narrative is told in a series of letters between the main characters and the actual main character investigating the letters, and it works. Entire moods shift depending on how the increasingly ornate letters are written and as a long-time proponent of voice acting in EVNs, both Devere and Angela’s VA nail every single scene. I sincerely had trouble writing the review because I just wanted to write ‘It’s good’ four times and call it a day and while I will bet good money that we have yet to see Katy_133’s magnum opus, this is the place I tell everyone to start with her work.
