Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (29-11)
16. Blue Rose (White Cat Games)
I’ve talked about what finally caused me to start reviewing adult games more seriously, NOW let’s talk about what finally won me over to Otome: Blue Rose. Really, it was more of its Slice-of-Life parts than its Otome. The game spends most of its time world-building and allowing the Protagonist and her friend, two soldiers, to spend time away from their duties. This allows the relationships that spawn from this relaxation time to feel much more natural than scenarios that require repeated forced proximity. The characters are all charming in their own way and each relationship is great to watch unfold, but how they react to the larger story, the war and the magical elements at play is also a big win for me. Time has aged some of the art, but I would still recommend most start here if they want a light, romantic adventure.
