Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (50-30)
42. Blankspace (NoBread Studios)
While I wasn’t in the room for this group’s first entry, Blankspace is a touching, if not sinister tragedy that makes me invested in the rest of NoBread’s work. Built around a fairly simple concept, you will spend most of the game jumping through hoops and getting to know Beryl: the only other person trapped with you in the room. Quickly, you begin to discover parts of the Protagonist Chris that you’d rather not know and by the midway point, you find this heartbreaking humanity at the center of the title. I wouldn’t say there is a ‘good’ ending here, as things still feel bleak even after its resolution. But, I respect the fact the developers didn’t cop out on their endings. Sometimes the darkest ending is the correct one and you will feel it firmly after finishing this one.
