36. Shining Song Starnova (Lost in Space)
Lost in Space is more defined in the public eye by their flagship series Sunrider. But, for me, the developer hit a stride with this: a game about a bunch of misfits with a similar dream. Shining Song Starnova has the interesting note of me starting the game with a beer and my iron cynicism, only to be eventually won over by how hopelessly optimistic it is. To be fair, it isn’t unrealistically optimistic. The game is very clear about the darker side of Japan’s idol industry: showing all of the abuses and pressures that come with it. But there is something about watching these idiots bicker amongst each other, only to agree to not give up and keep going. I doubt we’ll see it repeated from LIS, but on its own, this is very good.
