Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (50-30)
34. 80 Days (Inkle)
I love classic literature and I loved Around The World in Eighty Days growing up, so this was always going to make the list somewhere. If, somehow, you’re not familiar with the premise, one Phileas Fogg accepts a bet in his social club to traverse the known world and be back in London in eighty days. The entire story is meant to evoke a sense of wonder about the larger world: something that before that time could not be travelled strictly for leisure. 80 Days dials into that sense of wonder; creating a steampunk variant that hits the correct notes as the original. The game dips into management simulator territory here as Passepartout is the one responsible for the logistics of Fogg’s insane idea. Even if you did not grow up with the book, the game is well worth a play.
