Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (50-30)
33. Backstage Pass (Sakevisual)
Ah, Otome. We meet again, my old enemy. There is something to the romantic notions behind it and Sakevisual taps into that very well with Backstage Pass. The game masters very early something I noted was important in another forum: making small moments matter. The day-to-day interactions between Sian and the rest of the cast work not just in keeping the audience invested in seeing them in between the management simulator sections, but it also makes them far more human. Their individual stories click far better than what I usually deride in these games as ‘romantic targets’ and you get a real taste of humanity from most of the game. Undoubtedly Sakevisual’s most popular work, this game lives up to most of its hype…and I got through this entry without a joke on Matthew. YES.
