Ten Years of VNs Now Special Feature: Fifty EVNs JP Recommends (50-30)
31. Orwell: Keeping An Eye On You (Osmotic Studios)
There was a time Orwell would have been seen as fantastical. However, that time has long passed. This is how investigations happens now: usually legal and digging through everything you think is private. The line the game attempts to walk is whether or not it is necessary and what is the cost of this type of law enforcement. It does so in brooding fashion: giving you the power not only to investigate a potential terrorist outfit inside of ‘The Nation’, but also the power to destroy anyone who might tangentially be connected to them. The machine does not care: it can only connect the information you feed it, after all. Backed by fantastic world-building and great ambience, this game is still very underrated in my opinion.
