Despite my promise to myself to stay far away from adult titles in visual novels, time proved to be the great equalizer. More developers started making better works and, as a result, I found myself pulled further in. Acting Lessons is the capping point for this massive heel-face turn as it is a game that nails the prime time, soap opera world it wants to live in while finding a way to humanize most of its expansive cast. While, yes, sex does play an important role in the story, it is only as important as discovering something more tangible: connecting beyond just the moment. This leads to some solid melodrama and even a few legitimately funny moments that are more than worth the price of admission…and the uncanny valley you will dive into with the 3D models.
