The Ten Worst Visual Novels of 2018

2. Analistica Academy (Epicworks/Top Hat Studios)

The title is a joke about anal sex! Ha…..ha. Enjoy that awkward laugh folks, because that’s about as funny as this ‘comedy’ gets.

Despite being sold as a raunchy comedy, Anal Academy is a distilled, juvenile power fantasy: maybe even more so than many of the Triple A titles certain independent developers like to trash talk. The basis of this fantasy is that a manufacture virus wiped out the bulk of the male population on Earth save for a handful that took an antivirus that made their superhuman. One of those lucky bastard is Hora who is a self-admitted bastard, at least. Spoiled by his station and with literally every girl in town at his beck and call, Hora instead focuses on the three girls who have held out on him the longest to form his anal harem.

It’s…pathetic. It’s just really sad and pathetic. I would love to rant and rave about this one, and I still may do so in a future review. But the story just isn’t appealing in any tone. The girls around him are far too bland to provide any interest, there is no real arc between Hora pursuing them and them falling into his lap, and Hora is such a damn baby that the world and plot literally stop whenever he’s throwing a temper tantrum. It’s the crassest form of what Winged Cloud has been doing for years now and the fact that the developers here found a way to go lower than that infamous collective says a lot.

But is it the worst? No. There is another. One that tops not only this, but the rest of the list in terms of bad. A visual novel so lacking in anything I would consider good that I still cannot believe it exist. A visual novel that was so bad that it is responsible for getting Chris Tenarium, Tryinmorning, HusbandoGoddess and myself back together.
